My Favorite Nursing Gear: WBW, post 5

This is the fifth post in a series celebrating World Breastfeeding Week.

To wrap up this week of celebrating World Breastfeeding Week, I thought we could talk about favorite gear again.  I love everything baby-related, so it's always fun to see what the latest gadgets and gizmos are, even if half of them are a little silly and unnecessary.

Here's my list of favorite nursing items from last year.  See how your list would compare!

For my second baby, I would say all I really use are the Boppy & a nursing cover.  In those early weeks, I did use plenty of Lansinoh lanolin as well as nursing pads and the latest edition of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding on my beloved Kindle.

I did, however, register for a really cool newborn booster for the Boppy, and a sweet lady at church bought it for me.

I really enjoyed using the newborn booster.  While I do think it's unnecessary and even a bit excessive, I thought it made nursing in those early weeks just a little bit easier.  Even though I was nursing my second baby, I still found it a bit difficult to get used to handling such a tiny baby again.  I always feel like I need about five hands for the first few days of nursing, and the Boppy & booster made me feel like I had six.

If you're nursing a newborn in the cradle position, unfold the booster and the baby will be in the perfect position for nursing, tummy to tummy.  And mom can be practically hands-free too!

If you nurse using the clutch or football hold, you may still find the newborn booster helpful.  Andrew had pretty bad reflux and has been on Zantac for the past six months.  I just took him off the medicine last week.  Advice for reflux babies often includes feeding them in a slightly inclined position, which can be difficult to achieve when nursing.  But if you nurse with the football hold and fold the newborn booster into the wedge position, baby is positioned perfectly.

What tops your list of favorite nursing gear?

  1. I could've really used this when I was breastfeeding Autumn - she was sooo tiny! I just had a regular boppy, and she would slide down the crack between me and the pillow. What a great idea.
