Andrew's First Taste of Food

Andrew's first experience with solids went just as I'd expected.

We started the meal off with a happy baby.

I cut up chunks of avocado and put it on the same plate we used for Isabelle's first feeding.  We let him explore the avocado for a while.  He squished it and played with it.

He didn't seem to get the idea, so I broke the rules of Baby-Led Weaning and gave him a spoonful to try.

Andrew's trying to decide if he likes it.  Shhh!  This requires deep concentration.

Eh...

Nah!

Afterwards, I gave him more time to explore and he continued to squish it and suck on his fists, getting an idea of the flavor of the avocado.

Fortunately, at this age (6 months), any solid feeding is complementary to the nourishment he's already getting through milk, so we'll continue trying.  I'll stick with avocado this week and move on to a different food next week.  It takes time, but eventually, he'll pick it up.  Mealtime is just for fun and exploration right now.

I'm still anxiously awaiting the arrival of my copy of Baby-Led Weaning, so I can really see what this is all about.

How long did it take your babies to get the hang of eating solids?
