About 6 weeks ago, I got this box in the mail:
I can't tell you how excited I was.
For over a year now, I've been using my homemade laundry detergent. We love it and find it so simple to make and use that we can't bear to purchase laundry detergent anymore. A batch of detergent costs $18.50 and lasts about 9 months.
But as hard as I've tried to get away from using fabric softener, my husband has insisted that we continue using it. He can't stand static cling in his blue jeans or running shorts, and for that matter, I can't stand it in mine either.
Finally, I don't have to use a fabric softener anymore.
What are dryer balls?
Woolzies Dryer Balls are handmade from New Zealand wool. They bounce around in the dryer, separating the clothes and softening them naturally. Unlike dryer sheets and fabric softeners, Woolzies have no toxic chemicals. The wool is even safe for people with wool sensitivities and unlike fabric softeners, they are safe for my beloved cloth diapers.I looked into the difference between Woolzies and other dryer balls, and the primary difference that I found was quality. These are guaranteed to last for over 1,000 loads, but other dryer balls would have to be replaced long before then. You can follow Woolzies on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
How do I like them?
I don't like them. I love them.I love that they're nontoxic, and since I've never washed my kids' clothes with fabric softeners, I love that I can finally wash adult clothes & kids clothes together when needed. My kiddos have eczema, so we're careful about added scents & fabric softeners.
I love that I don't have to buy fabric softener anymore. Woolzies will last for over 1,000 washes. Yes, you read that correctly! If I wash one load a day, then one $30 package of 6 dryer balls will last almost 3 years.
They do reduce static cling. My husband and I have no complaints on how they work. As winter approaches, if we find that static cling gets worse, as it usually does during the winter, Woolzies has some great suggestions to help with that. You can roll up a large ball of aluminum foil and throwing it in the dryer along with the Woolzies balls and it's supposed to help reduce cling. But we haven't had to do that.
They do reduce drying time. I noticed this and so did my husband. He pointed it out and reminded me to make sure I adjust the dryer dial accordingly, so that we can save money on our energy bill. They can reduce drying time by 25%-40%.
They do not sound like tennis balls in my dryer, which is what I was worried about. Yes, I can hear them tumbling, but they're not nearly as loud as I expected them to be. I tried to record a video of the dryer running with Woolzies, but all you could hear is the squeak & tumble of my dryer.
I'm all about win-win situations, and to me, saving money on my utility bill, saving money on fabric softener, reducing our family's exposure to chemicals, and taking care of the environment is definitely a win-win. Or make that a win-win-win-win.
So. How 'bout some dryer balls?
Woolzies has agreed to give away one box of dryer balls to my readers. That means you can have a win-win-win-win at your house too. Sound good? Enter the Rafflecopter Giveaway below to win your box!

I hate laundry because it never ends at our house! We have 5 kids, so there is never a time when we are "finished" with the laundry. I love the idea of these dryer balls. After reading this post, I ordered a box and cannot wait to try them!
ReplyDeleteIt just never ever ends. I have 2 toddlers in cloth diapers and that on top of regular laundry means never feeling "caught up" ...I have been looking into wool dryer balls for a while but haven't taken the leap yet...I love that they reduce drying time and could soften everything a bit since I have outlawed all fabric softeners and sheets in fear of diaper issues lol!
ReplyDeleteFolding it!!!! Hate it so much!!! Got a 5 year old, 3 year old in potty training process a 18month old that loves getting dirty every second and a baby in the way (2more weeks to go!!) I don't mind washing all the time, I hate folding and folding...never ending job! And can only be done when the kids are asleep otherwise they will mess everything! ! :-(
ReplyDeleteThat it's never done! After washing, drying, folding, and putting away there is always something dirty back in the basket. :-)

I actually enjoy laundry itself BUT dislike the static cling when I remove my clothes from the dryer...thanks for this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI hate folding laundry!!
ReplyDeleteI hate that my husband leaves all his cloths turned inside out.
ReplyDeleteI think folding takes the cake for the worst part about laundry. I often tend to let the clean clothes sit in the basket for a couple of days or more before I finally put them away. It is a good feeling when I get it all done in one day though! I've been wanting to try dryer balls though, so this is great!! :)
