Random Gadgets and My New Bedding

If you haven't discovered bedskirt pins, you're really missing out.  I stumbled across them at Target several years ago and even my husband loves them.

They're also called upholstery twist pins.  While they have a thumbtack appearance on top, they have a corkscrew type of pin on the bottom.  You twist them into your boxspring to hold the bedskirt in place.  They're especially wonderful if you get the bright idea to surprise your husband by changing out all the bedding while he's at work.  It's not easy to get the mattress back on the bed without moving the bedskirt, but with these pins, it's not a problem at all.

Of course, I wouldn't need bedskirt pins at all if we had the kind of bed I would like to buy in the not-so-distant future.  Here's how I ended up with new bedding:

Me:  "Honey, after we finish these next two home projects, I'd really like to redo our bathroom."
Sweet Husband: "When we do that, we'll need to pick a coordinating paint color for the bedroom."
Me:  Paint color?  Bedroom?  Bedding!  In order to do that, we need to get the new bedding I've been eyeing, so we can make sure it all looks good together."

In my mind, I was also thinking that I would need a new bedskirt too, but if we could get new bedroom furniture, then we wouldn't need a bedskirt.  But I knew that was impossible because at the moment, we really want to pay off our son's lung surgery as soon as possible.  We really dislike debt, even if it's interest-free debt.  And even though bedding is a splurge, it's my gift for my 30th birthday next month, which I'm also calling my second 29th birthday.

My new bedding is a duvet cover in Delphine, from Pottery Barn.  I determined that we needed either a duvet cover or a quilt--something that would fit in the washer.  Comforters are either dry clean only or they can only fit in the large capacity front load washers, not the standard front loader.  And since I'm in the spit-up phase of life, washability is key!  Here's what it looks like:

Everything looks cuter with a baby in front of it.

You know it's impossible for a mom to take pictures without one of her babies being in them!  My little man looks like he's propped up on the pillows, but he's not.  He does a great job of sitting without support.  Andrew is one strong and sturdy little guy!
