This morning, after I'd read a farm animal story to Isabelle, we both sat in the nursery together in the glider. Suddenly, she started signing please. In fact, she was so eager to say please that she started signing it on her chest and on mine too, just to be clear. It was the first time she'd ever said it completely unprompted, so I was ready to find out what she wanted. She would say please and then point to her hairbow holder, which is already maxxed out on bows. I happily gave her a bow, but it quickly became obvious that she wanted it in her hair, so I put it in for her. Then she started saying please again, and the whole cycle started over. Here's what we ended up with:
Her daddy's response? She's such a girl!
Too cute! Emme always pulls her bows out - I hope eventually she will get to where she wants them in her hair!
ReplyDeleteLook out! You've got a girlie girl, like my Ella, on your hands! :o) Pink, sparklies, headbands, purses, sequin shoes, Barbies, poses, dresses, oh my!
ReplyDeleteHa! That is a great photo. It's so amazing what babies can learn and how quickly. I am going to work on sign language with my baby, for now just some key words like hungry, milk, water, hurt, please and thank you. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cute! I definitely need to teach Nic "Please." He grunts/whines when he wants something. I've been trying to demonstrate it, but he doesn't really pay attention to what I'm doing. How did you teach the sign?
ReplyDeleteThanks! We have a porcelain sign in the nursery that says "You Are My Sunshine" and also plays the song when you press a button. I pressed it for a couple of times so that she could hear the song. Then for the next several days, every time we passed it, she wanted to hear it. I signed "please" and then physically helped her sign "please" as well. I also repeated the sign any other time she seemed to want something, but I think the musical wall sign is what did the trick. Most of our breakthroughs with sign language came because she was highly motivated to learn the word.
